It's Friday Night: Famed Pianist Joins Hotel Indigo Jazz Jam

Grammy Award winner Gil Goldstein to make one-time appearance at Live at the Indigo.

Grammy Award-winning pianist Gil Goldstein will come to town Friday night to perform with local musicians at the Friday Jam Session, according to the event's organizer.

Goldstein, an accordionist turned pianist, has toured the world with jazz greats including saxophonists Lee Konitz and Wayne Shorter and guitarist Pat Martino. However, it was Goldstein's arrangement work with late saxophonist Michael Brecker that earned him three Grammys.

Also joining the 8 p.m. jam Friday at Riverhead's is singer Lauren Kinhan, of the acclaimed group New York Voices.

"Musically, it's been a blast," said East End Arts Council educational director Steve Watson, who put together the weekly jam session.

"Every week the vibe has been different," he said.

For Watson, the session is just one way the hotel has brought more support for local musicians to the region. The hotel hosts performances Thursday through Sunday, including a weekly performance by local blues man Willie Steele on Sundays.

"They're doing the local music scene right," he said.
