Local Author Discusses Debut Novel

Tom Gahan, author and founder of the Riverhead Blues Festival, was recently interviewed on a Long Island internet radio show.

Local author Tom Gahan was interviewed this past month on the Balance and Power Web Talk Radio program about his writing, the power of words and his work with students.

Gahan, who is also well-known for founding the , discussed where the idea for his debut historical novel  came from as well as its loose historical ties to Long Island. The book was inspired in part by Revolutionary War patriots, who would raid British encampments along the island under the cover of night, but Gahan said he didn't want to make the fictional story specifically about Long Island.

"I never specifically said where [the setting] is," Gahan said.  "When I mention 'the city' I just leave it as 'the city.' For someone, that could be New York City, it could be Boston, it could be a lot of different places ... I wanted the reader to create in their mind the story for themselves, a little bit."
