New Direction for Suffolk Theater

A key Suffolk Theater employee was let go this week.

In a surprising twist, the Suffolk Theater announced this week that a key member of its original staff had been let go.

Bob Spiotto, executive director of the Suffolk Theater, who had been responsible for shaping the venue's lineup, and who was onhand recently for a sold-out event with psychic Jim Fargiano, was fired earlier this week.

"As part of the re-organization and re-structuring efforts of the Suffolk Theater, it is unfortunate Mr. Spiotto will no longer be employed as Executive Director. He is a fine professional and had contributed much of himself to the theater," Anna Maria Villa, general manager of the Suffolk Theater, wrote in a statement.

In October, theater owner Bob Castaldi said he had  hired Spiotto to helm programming and events at the theater. In addition to live theater, musical performances, cabaret, country music, children's activities and film series, weddings and other events could also take place on-site, Castaldi said at the time.

And, Spiotto added, with the music and whispers of voices long gone seeming to echo from the history-rich walls, one creative idea might include hosting the filming of a show on paranormal events at the site.

What do you think of the news that Spiotto was let go? Would you like to see the Suffolk Theater restructured — or did you like it the way it's been?
