For the eighth consecutive year, Uniting Against Lung Cancer (UALC) will kick off the summer season in Southampton with its annual “Kites for a Cure®” event at Coopers Beach on Memorial Day Weekend.
Rain or shine, on Saturday, May 24th from 4-6 p.m., the family kite fly is expected to bring more than 1,000 kite flyers and friends to the beach to benefit lung cancer research and raise awareness for the nation’s number one cancer killer.
“Over the years, the ‘Kites for a Cure’ event in Southampton has helped provide substantial funds for UALC’s innovative research grant program,” said UALC President Mary Ann Tighe. “With an underwriting sponsorship from Rechler Equity Partners and The Hampton Business District at Gabreski, we are able to make important strides in research which can ultimately be used to find a cure for this deadly disease.”
“Kites for a Cure” is an affordable fundraiser and a worthwhile and fun event for family members of all ages. All proceeds will go to Uniting Against Lung Cancer’s national lung cancer research grant program.
There is a $30 donation cost for individuals or a $300 opportunity for family participation as donors dubbed the “Family of Flyers," for their generous support.
Lung cancer will kill more Americans this year than colon, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers combined, yet it receives less federal research funding per death than any of the other major cancers.
