Video: Riverhead High Teens Take the Stage in Indie Teen Concert Series

Orchestral strings and choral groups performed Thursday downtown at Vail-Leavitt.

Two groups of Riverhead High School musicians performed at Vail-Leavitt Music Hall Thursday evening in January's edition of the Indie Teen Concert Series. The orchestral string group, CWC Chamber Ensemble performed at approximately 7:15 p.m., followed by the choral group Fermata Nowhere about an hour later.

The Indie Teen Concert Series is a monthly concert run in conjunction with Vail-Leavitt Music Hall, Jeff "Doc" Greenberger - a Latin teacher at Riverhead high school - and local music groups, most of whom perform original content. Thursday's performance was not original, however the groups explored genres of music dating back centuries with global influences ranging from the Celtic to the Arabic to Judy Garland-inspired.

"I think a lot of times younger bands are not taken as seriously as older bands," said Toni Munna, board member with Vail-Leavitt who helped set the concert series up last spring. "Yet there are some really good bands out here. They're writing their own music and performing it and they're really talended. This way they get to perform music in concert setting rather than a club setting."
