Congratulations to Riverhead Student on ‘State Legislators’ Scholarship Win

New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators

This week, I was proud to present Riverhead High School senior Mariah Messina with a $1,500 scholarship award from the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators.  Mariah received one of the Conference’s two athletic scholarships for her impressive achievements in the classroom and on the field.  Mariah will be attending Loyola University in Maryland this fall and plans to major in biology.

Mariah is an extraordinary student athlete who excels in three highly competitive varsity sports while holding a 4.0 grade-point average.  I was confident in recommending Mariah for this scholarship.  Her strong academic achievements, coupled with an athletic prowess and overall commitment to excellence, made her one of the most qualified candidates.

The Conference awards four $1,500 annual scholarships (two academic, two athletic) to student applicants from around the state.  Mariah’s application was chosen for consideration from many hundreds of those submitted.  I was elated to have the opportunity to present this exemplary student and her family with a $1,500 check in the Assembly Chamber.  Congratulations to Mariah and her parents, Sal and Theresa Ann, for all their hard work and commitment to achieving excellence.
