Aquebogue Teachers Rewarded With Gift Cards from Walmart

The cards were presented as a thank you to teachers that spend their own money for school supplies to benefit students.

Aqueboguge Elementary school teachers recently received a surprise gift from Walmart — a combined $1,000 in gift cards.

The 20 teachers were presented each with a $50 gift card during a recent school assembly where students cheered as their teachers were thanked and handed the cards by managers of Wallmart.

According to Walmart Assistant Manager Brian McAllister, the gift cards are part of a nationwide program that thanks and acknowledges that teachers spend money out of their own pockets every year for supplies to benefit students.

McAllister said that $4.5 million in gift cards are being handed out to 90,000 teachers across the country.

“It’s really a nice gift,” said one of the teachers who received a card. “I’ll probably use mine to purchase small items such as stickers to be used as rewards for student achievement.
