Dick's Sporting Goods is coming soon to Route 58 in Riverhead, expected to open this fall.

The store will feature Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour, athletic and outdoor footwear and the latest gear for team sports, fitness, camping, hunting and fishing.

According to Dick's management, the store is looking to give back through its Community Marketing and Community Youth Sports programs, which work with local organizations to support schools and youth organizations.

To kick off the grand opening, Dicks's plans to host a three-day weekend of festivities, with giveaways and special appearances; details will be coming soon.

In July, a groundbreaking ceremony was held with members of the Riverhead town board and Saber Real Estate Advisors to welcome Dick's Sporting Goods, Christmas Tree Shops andThat! and four other new stores to town.

Development began on the project in 2010; other shops set to open include Buffalo Wild Wings, ALDI, Five Below, and Starbucks.

“We are honored that so many major retailers want to make Riverhead their home,” Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter said. “These projects will benefit the residents of Riverhead in the form of tax revenue, economic development, and job creation, allowing us keep local taxes in check.”

There are currently two other major retail developments underway along Route 58 in the Town of Riverhead, Costco at The Shops at Riverhead and Super Walmart.

While Dicks is a very nice sporting goods store, we already have 2 - Modells and Sports Authority! What we really need in this town is a new bookstore to replace Borders. A large bookstore would provide as much employment opportunity for our town as any other store (that our cup already runneth over with) would. Lets provide something more positive to our town than another place to spend our money on things we can already purchase in the stores that already fulfill those needs! Bookstore...bookstore...bookstore...bookstore!!!
