Did You Catch Greenport's Maritime Festival?

The annual event drew crowds to Greenport over the weekend. What was your favorite part?

Thousands of visitors flocked to Greenport over the weekend for the annual Greenport Maritime Festival 2012, an event filled with pirates a'plenty, a kayak derby, and, of course, the Tall Ships and boats galore, all of which took place under sunny blue skies.

This year, the Maritime Festival featured a full schedule, including a parade led by 92-year-old Greenporter and World War II veteran Jack Fisher — the blessing of the waters outside of the Greek Orthodox Church, the clam chowder fest, the and ongoing performances from the Kings of the Coast Pirate Troup.

The historic Greenport jail was open for history buffs, the Tall Ship the Lynx wa docked for tours, and trips to Bug Lighthouse in Orient were available.

The event garnered glowing reviews from happy business owners and crowds who felt this year's approach, will less street vendors and more of an emphasis on wares offered by local businesses, was just right.
