Hampton Bays Paddleboard Company to Test Area Waters

This summer, a new company called , based out of Hampton Bays, hopes to make a big splash in Westhampton, Hampton Bays and Montauk.

With a love of surfing and the water, Cherryle Bradley, a professional dancer and amateur surfer, and Ed Croce, a 30-year surfer and owner of  in Hampton Bays, have teamed up to start the company that will offer paddleboard rentals, starting in May.

New York State Assemblyman  has drafted state legislation to allow municipalities with rich histories such as Southampton to keep chain stores and fast-food restaurants out of town, and he presented it Friday to the .

It all began with a dream Wendy Yusin shared with her mother.

And now, Yusin has purchased the old Suffolk Trust Building, located at 8 East Main St, in downtown Riverhead, for a place for the community to come together and nurture their artistic aspirations.

The new business, Jewl’s Book Shoppe and Writing Centre, will be a haven for readers and writers, Yusin said. “It will be the bookshop and writing center for the writers of today,” she said.

The vines are starting to bloom and local winemakers are feeling the pressure to prepare early for a fast harvest. With only about 6 inches of rainfall in January, February and March combined, plenty of sunshine and a very warm and dry ground, local vintners are experiencing an early bud break, similar to those in 2010 and 2007.

More than 400 signatures have been collected in a petition to keep the  in Amagansett. 

Barry Adelman, who took over the retail clothing, sporting goods and accessories store 15 years ago with his now former partner Steve Schneider, said that he lost his lease for the space at 171 Main Street in Amagansett.

He started a petition last week to show the support of his customers and he promises, "We will stay come hell or high water through the summer." Then, he said, "we'll leave for somewhere in the future. You don't want to stay where you're not wanted."
