Marina Fined $50k by DEC; Too Steep?

The state's Department of Environmental Conservation has slapped at $50,000 fine on the owner of the Lake Montauk Club and Marina for dredging more than its permit allowed.

According to 27 East, the owner, Steve Kalimnios along with, Christopher Gentry, of Seacoast Marine Construction in Sayville, went beyond the 4,000 cubic yard limit that the permit allowed, though they did not have any info on how much more was dredged.

Real Estate Firm Halstead Property Coming to Southampton Village

New York-metropolitan area real estate firm Halstead Property is coming to Southampton Village, with a new office slated to open this spring.

The office will be located at 31 Main Street, in the storefront formerly occupied by home store MacKenzie-Childs.

According to Halstead Property's Tumblr, more than 20 agents will be working from the new location, all new hires. Nancy Hardy, formerly of Douglas Elliman, leads the new office as director of sales. According to her company bio, Hardy has 18 years in the real estate business

Gabreski Airport Tower Faces Closure

The FAA tower at Gabreski Airport could shut down if federal cuts are allowed to go into effect on March 1, according to statement issued by U.S. Tim Bishop's office late Friday afternoon.

Schaudel to Run Suffolk Theater Kitchen

Just one week away from its grand opening, downtown Riverhead's Suffolk Theater announced recently its new culinary director will be someone who is self-admittedly new to the scene of directing food services at live entertainment venues: Tom Schaudel.

Though Schaudel is anything but a stranger to the local culinary industry.

The owner of four Long Island restaurants – including Mattituck's aMano, Southold's aLure and two more further west – as well as a catering company, Schaudel said the opportunity to try something new was part of the draw.

North Fork Chef Named James Beard Semifinalist

North Fork Table & Inn partner Gerry Hayden has been named a semifinalist in the annual James Beard Foundation Awards for the third year in a row, according to Newsday's Explore LI blog.

Hayden and restaurant co-owner Claudia Flemming attended The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter's Lou Gehrig Sports Awards Dinner this past November, an event honors celebrities who work to bring awareness to the disease.

Hayden was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease and the report said that he is no longer the day-to-day chef at the restaurant.
