East End Business Notebook: More Free Shuttle Rides Coming to Hamptons

Saying that he did not intend on speaking before the Westhampton Beach Village Board on Monday night, Micky Biss, the owner of the Corner Restaurant on Montauk Highway, asked the village trustees to help him "turn the lights back on" in the building, which has sat empty for the past seven years. 

"This property sits at the gateway to the village and I want to know why the village board is not more interested to spur the commerce of the village, which I see struggling. I personally can keep the place vacant and an eye sore because that is what I've been forced to do," said Biss, who splits his time between Westhampton Beach and Miami. 

According to Biss, a pre-existing site plan, which was approved before he took ownership of the property, is preventing him from developing the property. 

Maximilian M. Eicke, a furniture designer based in Bridgehampton, launched his latest collection Saturday in his new studio, MAX ID NY Studio, at 1 Tradesman Path.

Leading up to this reception, Max has created an event throughout the Hamptons in which each venue will feature — in its storefront windows by day and spot lit all evening — a highlight from his collection.

Should someone choose to purchase one of these showcased pieces, 10 percent of each sale will be donated to the venue's selected charity or nonprofit.

 is officially coming to Amagansett on Aug. 1.

Alex Esposito, an owner of the  and in , said the new company is ready to expand yet again.

The route in Amagansett is tentatively set for stops along Main Street, down to Indian Wells Beach, across Bluff Road to Atlantic Beach and back. Like in the other hamlets, cars will run 7 days a week, from about 9 a.m. to about 6 p.m.

Initially, the plan was to start the 2012 summer season in both Montauk and Amagansett, but Esposito and his partner, James Mirras, wanted to make sure everything was running smoothly in Montauk first.

On Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation implementing two refundable tax credits structured to support small-batch breweries based in New York, and creating a new classification of breweries in the state – farm breweries. It's a move that bodes well for a 45-mile stretch from Port Jefferson to Greenport, where in the past three years alone, four microbreweries have opened their doors in the area,  and  is brewing for another on Sound Avenue.

Though the state-wide legislation possesses production restrictions for eligibility, all of Long Island's breweries exist within the requirements of one or both mandated tax credits.

Just over 12 hours after 12 people were killed, 71 were shot and 59 were wounded during a massacre at a midnight viewing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, Colo., managers at said that they will tighten up security for this weekend in the Mattituck Shopping Plaza.

Manager Shane Alexander said that Friday morning’s tragedy has not affected ticket sales for the new Batman movie, which started playing at 12:30 p.m. at the theater on Friday, and he expected to be busier than usual in the evenings.

“But we’re not allowing backpacks at all in the theater,” he said. “Sometimes kids riding their bicycles here have a knapsack, but we will search it and store it up front — no one can take a backpack into the theater.”
