East End Business Notebook: EPCAL Biofuel Biz Files for Bankruptcy

Though the restaurant at the Blue Inn in East Marion has been operational for just about a year and a half now — including an outdoor concrete patio section under a recognizable blue awning — Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said this week that recent renovations to the outdoor section does not jibe with town code.

“The problem is that the snack bar that was there is considered preexisting and nonconforming,” he said. “It is supposed to be accessory to the hotel. If the owner seeks to expand its use to a full service restaurant / catering facility then he needs to make an application to the building department then have a hearing before the Zoning Board of Appeals.”

Sam Glass, the owner of the Blue Inn, said he was taken by surprise by this decision from town officials early last month, when he sought permission from them to create a temporary wall with a tarp around the patio area when the weather became cooler.

Metro Fuel Oil Files for Bankruptcy

Just over a year after celebrating its grand opening at Enterprise Park at Calverton, Metro Biofuels, its parent company Metro Fuel Oil Corp., and eight other subsidiaries have filed for bankruptcy.

The company said in a statement that the announcement should not affect business as usual, as the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York granted immediate access to $3 million in financing – in addition to cash generated from its operation – and the company is looking to borrow $10 million while in bankruptcy proceedings.

Multimillion Dollar Listing: Southampton Mansion at $30 Million

Nestled in Southampton Village's estate section, a 10-bedroom, 8.5-bath mansion is on the market for $30 million.

Halloween Returns to Main Street

A decision to move Westhampton Beach's annual Halloween's festivities to the Westhampton Beach Elementary School and close them to the public has been reversed. On Oct. 31, Main Street will once again be filled with ghosts, goblins, princesses and pirates, carrying bucketfuls of candy.
