Open For the Season: Rustic Roots Delivery

While there is an abundance of fresh, organic veggies and fruits available at local farm stands, sometimes finding the time to stop by and pick them up proves challenging. That's where Jeffery Moore, owner of the year-old Rustic Roots Delivery, steps in.

SOUTHAMPTON

Two Hamptons shuttle services that provide free transportation to local beaches during the summer are combining, starting Memorial Day Weekend.

SpotRides, which was founded by Southampton Village natives Chris and Stacy Dimon in 2012, will operate this summer in the village as part of Hamptons Free Ride, which has served East Hampton since 2011.

The shuttles are plug-in electric vehicles that pick up passengers around town on a loop to the beach. In the case of Southampton Village, the beach is Coopers, which was picked as Dr. Beach's Best Beach in America of 2010.

Weird Grapes Coming to North Fork

Weird grapes are coming to the North Fork.

Regan and Carey Meador hit the finish line on their Kickstarter campaign, "Bring Weird Grapes to the North Fork," not long after it began about three weeks ago, and having flown past their $15,000 goal, are now getting ready to plant some weird grapes in the ground.

The grapes are considered "weird," because they are more commonly found in Italy, not on the North Fork.

RIVERHEAD

New Life For Woolworth Building in Downtown Riverhead

After years of standing empty, a new day is dawning for the former Woolworth building in downtown Riverhead.

The building, located at 130 East Main Street, was the subject of a public hearing at Tuesday's town board meeting.

A special permit is needed to allow Woolworth Revitalization, LLC to develop a new gym as an indoor recreational use at the site.

EAST HAMPTON

Bishop Hopes To Recruit New Generation of Farmers

Congressman Tim Bishop joined with the Long Island Farm Bureau for a coffee roundtable aimed at spotlighting issues of concern to area farmers.

Locally, Bishop said he planned to team up with the LIFB to advance their priorities regarding immigration reform.

Bishop also agreed that he would work with the Farm Bureau and BOCES on a farm career mentoring program to introduce high school students to farm work and recruit a new generation of farmers for the East End.
