John Fazio, CRNA, a nurse anesthetist in the Anesthesia Department at Eastern Long Island Hospital, has been selected to receive the Laura Goodale Nurse of the Year Award for 2014.  A dinner in his honor will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10th at the Soundview Restaurant in Greenport.

Fazio, of Miller Place, has been at ELIH since 2006.  He is a board certified registered nurse anesthetist.

It is the second year in row Fazio has been recognized for his outstanding work. Last year he received ELIH’s Nurse of Excellence Award.

This year he will be honored with the Laura Goodale award which was established in 1986 by lifelong ELIH supporter Carl E. Vail, Sr. and the Southold-Greenport Rotary.  The award is given in the spirit of Laura Goodale, a former ELIH nurse with a 42-year service record that was so extraordinary, it won her recognition as the ‘Florence Nightingale’ of the North Fork.

“John is a valued member of the surgical team and highly respected by his peers,” stated D. Patricia Pispisa, Vice President Patient Care Services. “John’s ability to put patients at ease and nursing anesthetist skills are exemplary.  He is always focused on patient comfort and maximum safety.  In a surgical setting, these two factors are paramount for optimal outcomes.”

The dinner is to be hosted by the Southold and Greenport Rotary Clubs. Tickets to the event cost $35 and include a full course dinner with salad and dessert.  Call for reservations by June 6, 2014 to ELIH Community Relations, 631.477.5164.
