New Hard Cider Tasting Room This Season In Aquebogue

One apple farmer has found a way to bring in customers during the summer season.

Owner Bob Gammon said while business is brisk at his Woodside Orchards during the fall U-pick apple months, he wanted to find a way to bring in customers the rest of the year.

That's why he opened a new local craft cidery this season, with hard cider tastings.

"Hard cider is trending nationally," said Gammon, who has owned the orchards in Aquebogue since 1982.

Since 95 percent of all he offers is grown on- site, Gammon said he wanted to remain true to his vision when he branched out.

Hard cider is so popular nationwide now that Gammon said major companies such as Budweiser are embracing the trend.

But Gammon sells all his own variations of hard cider, including flavors such as traditional cider and cinnamon apple. Four flavors are currently available with more to come. Apple wine is also available.

The tasting room is open from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday and from t11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

During the fall customers crowd in for the chance to pick over 30 varieties of apples, he added.
