New Wading River Farmers Market Brings Community Together

A new Wading River farmers market focuses on natural products and local delights.

A new farmers market in Wading River is a dream come true for the women who've made it a reality.

The Wading River Local Market, located at the duck ponds in Wading River, kicked off at the end of June, and is open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Owner Kathleen Baumann Schnoor, along with her mom Judy Baumann, and Melanie Paul have a vision.

"I've always loved going to farmers markets," said Baumann Schnoor, who owns Thrifts and Gifts in Wading River along with her mom. "There's something really special about a local market that brings a community together with local produce and treats. We've been selecting vendors with local, natural ingredients or handmade products. We also have free range eggs, which as animal lovers, was very important to us."

The market is located in the Thrift and Gifts parking lot, next to the duck ponds. "It's really a beautiful spot to hang out on a Sunday morning," said Baumann Schnoor.

Baumann Schnoor grew up in Wading River and now lives in Shoreham; her mom, originally from Wading River, now lives in Rocky Point. Paul is from Mastic Beach and is the market coordinator for the business.

"We just started a few weeks ago, but I think we are getting some momentum," said Baumann Schnoor. "We currently have six vendors who sell vegetables, jams, cookies, cakes, soaps, fresh squeezed juices, plants and jewelry."

The market is held right outside Thrifts and Gifts, because, Baumann Schnorr said, "We thought it would be a great idea to bring this to our customers and the community."

Additional vendors are sought; interested individuals can email  Thriftandgifts@gmail.com.
