Newsday Names The Riverhead Project the 'Best Fine Dining' on Long Island

The new restaurant topped the list of the finest 11 restaurants from across the Island.

was named the top fine dining restaurant on Long Island in 2011, according to a Newsday story.

Restaurant critic Peter Gianotti, who picked the top 11 upscale restaurants from across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, chose the Riverhead Project as his top choice.

"In addition to being an excellent restaurant, this 'project' is an ambitious high-risk, high-return bet on the continuing revival of downtown Riverhead," Peter Gianotti wrote. "Here's a sleek, sharp addition to downtown, overhauling a low-slung "Mad Men"-era bank building with bold design and a locavore kitchen."

Riverhead Project Owner Dennis McDermott said in an email he was "very excited" to hear the news.

"I think it is great news for Riverhead that the number one new restaurant on Long Island is here in Riverhead," McDermott said.
