Photo of the Day: Farm Bureau Honors Two Women

For the first time, the Long Island Farm Bureau feted two women at its awards gala.

Local farmer Deb Schmitt and Randi Dresner, president and CEO of non-profit Island Harvest, were honored last week at the Long Island Farm Bureau's 95th Annual Awards Gala.

"The Long Island Farm Bureau is extremely proud to honor Debra Schmitt and Randi Shubin Dressner as they embody character, commitment, leadership and community interest in who they are as individuals," said Joseph Gergela, executive director of the LIFB. "Both care deeply about their causes, farming and, in Randi's case, feeding those in need. I personally know these ladies; I couldn't meet nicer people."

It was the first time in its 95 years of honoring members of the farming community that the Long Island Farm Bureau as the winners of its most prestigious annual awards at its .

Local farmer and Riverhead resident Deb Schmitt, of Schmitt Farms, and Randi Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest - a Mineola-based food relief organization - were honored with, respectively, the Amherst Davis Memorial Farmer Citizen Award the LIFB Citizen Award.
