Cars Line Up at Gas Stations for Last Drops of Fuel [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Wholesale fuel shipments cut off by Hurricane Sandy begin to resume.

Update, 9:22 a.m. Friday: The Hess station in Quogue was down to just 252 gallons of regular and 156 gallons of premium as of 9 a.m., according to HessExpress.com.

The website has posted an inventory list on its website, including many, but not all, Hess gas stations in the area. Hess advises only heading to a station that reports having at least 5,000 gallons left. Any less, and it will probably be used up by vehicles already waiting on line.

The Southampton Hess reports having 7,817 gallons of regular left, and 889 gallons of premium. It is out of 89 octane unleaded, and diesel.

Update, 9:06 a.m. Friday:

At 8:30 a.m. Friday, more than 40 vehicles lined up for fuel at Spirit in East Quogue, including a utility truck in the area for line repairs, and the line was only getting longer.

Hess in Hampton Bays and Empire in East Quogue were all out of unleaded fuel, and had only diesel left.

Hess reported on its website that as of 7 a.m., the Southampton station had 9,799 gallons of regular left, no 89 octane left, and only 889 gallons of premium. No diesel remained.

Hampton Bays and Bridgehampton Hess station inventories was not listed.

Lines for gasoline snarled traffic on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays Thursday evening, and on Friday morning the eastbound commute on County Road 39 in Southampton moved at a snail's pass as motorists lined up to fuel up.

In Water Mill and Bridgehampton Thursday, motorists lined up at gas stations hoping to fuel up. The scene is being played out all across Long Island after Hurricane Sandy.

Many are reporting that some stations have run out of certain grades of gasoline, if not all.
