Pickle Ball, Anyone?

A new sport sweeping the nation will be demonstrated in Calverton Tuesday.

Pickles aren't just for sandwiches anymore.

Pickle ball, the new craze that's been sweeping the nation, will come to Calverton on Tuesday with a demonstation game scheduled.

Pickle ball, said Calverton Meadows resident Artie Johnsen, "is a great game. It's like playing ping pong on a badminton court."

The game is played on a badminton-like court with wooden paddles and plastic baseballs with holes; pickle ball can be played by two or four players in a small space, indoors or out.

Johnsen, a "snowbird" who lives in Florida for part of the year with his wife Bronna, said Tuesday's demonstation will be given at 4:30 p.m. at Calverton Meadows by two women who have a Fort Myers business.
