Suffolk Theater Readies For Grand Opening Gala

The event will be held on March 2.

After months of anticipation, the newly renovated Suffolk Theater will open its doors with "Back to the Thirties," a grand opening gala to be held on Saturday, March 2.

The cocktail party will feature Grammy-award winning Vince Giordana and his Nighthawks Orchestra and celebrate the era.

Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. and include drinks, dancing, food, signature cocktails, costumed characters, and video entertainment. Guests are encouraged to attend in 1930s garb.

The art deco Suffolk Theater opened in December 1939 and closed its doors in 1987, due to the shifting economy and the birth of the multiplex.

Bob and Dianne Castaldi purchased it in 2005 with the vision of creating a cutting edge performing arts center.

The theater has been  restored and transformed into a flex space, state of the art, theatrical performance venue. Except for the replaced carpet, the interior of the theater remains as it was in 1933. The theater interior flourishing, woodland-motif murals and carvings, mosaic water fountain, woven wall coverings and crane-etched windows are all intact.

Love the look of that theatre and thank God it is going to bring revival to Main St. which is sorely needed. Pepsi Freund

Can't wait to attend a function here. I have many a fond memory of many a movie and the balcony ! Just as to throw something out there, I see the Young Rascals or Rascals now are reuniting for some performances, what an excellent venue for a real local group. It's not like the "Barge" back in the day but would be a real excellent inaugural "Rock and Roll " event for all us East Enders try to recapture the wild summer nights !
