What's Your Favorite Flavor?

As the weather heats up, customers are clamoring for cold ice cream in Riverhead.

The heat is on and the ice cream is deliciously cold. Riverhead ice cream shop employees gave Patch the scoop on the hot flavors of the season.

At Snowflake Ice Cream Shoppe on West Main Street, owner Carolyn Feldschuh said customers clamor for Peconic Swamp Thing, a delightful concoction made of chocolate ice cream, fudge, brownies, and raspberry purée.

And at Dari-Land on Route 25, homemade flavors such as cotton candy delight, said employee Joseph Cataldo.

Both ice cream shops have seen a surge of business since the temps soared.

"The first hot day of the season is always the busiest," said Feldschuh.

"Ice cream is a nice break from the heat," Cataldo added.

Stephanie Wilms brought her two daughters, Brianna and Vanessa, to Snowflake for ice cream Friday as temperatures spiked into the high 80s in Riverhead. "I like cookie dough the best," Brianna said.

"And I like rainbow sprinkles," Vanessa chimed in.
