Abortion opponents are planning a large demonstration Oct. 7 that will take place off the Long Island Expressway at Exit 70 in Manorville.
Ann Cook, presiding vice chair of the Long Island Coalitiion for Life and chair of Stand Up for Life, said the Manorville demonstration will be one of about 1,700 sponsored by the National Life Chain around the country and in Canada.
Last year's demonstration drew about 600 people, she said. This is the 15th year the group has demonstrated.
"We hope to bring awareness at how many babies are being aborted here in this country," she said. "And we try to change the hearts and minds of people."
Cook said the signs demonstrators will be carrying are those approved by the national organization and that 11 tables will be set up to distribute information.
"We are nonsectarian, nonpartisan groups," she said. "We try to get all faiths and political persuasions."
The demonstration will begin at 2:30 p.m.
