Burned Riverhead Boy Moved to New Hospital by Volunteer Ambulance Team

Michael Hubbard, who was burned in an exploding gel candle incident, was transported to Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y by the same team that rescued him on May 28.

Michael Hubbard, a Riverhead boy , has been transported to Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y.

The 15-year-old boy, who suffered third-degree burns to his face, chest and arms in the blast, has been treated for brain damage since the incident on May 28. He was picked up at Stony Brook University Hospital by the same Riverhead Ambulance team that saved his life. The team volunteered to take Hubbard themselves and drove two hours to take Hubbard and his mother Nancy Reyer to his new location.

"Thank you to Riverhead Ambulance for their assistance," said Fran Reyer Johnson, Hubbard's aunt, on a website devoted to tracking Hubbard's recovery. "They volunteered their services to help Michael move to his new destination. Wow, how do you ever say thank you for that!"
