UPDATE: Police Identify Man Killed in Fatal Wading River Accident

The medical examiner was called to the scene, police said.

Update: 2:20 p.m.: Riverhead police have identified the man who died in a Friday morning accident on Route 25A in Wading River as Daniel Kiernan, 62, of Selden.

According to police, on Friday at 6:20 a.m., officers responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Route 25A in Wading River. A 2006 International tractor trailer operated by Duwayne Tirado, 26, of New Britain, Connecticut was parked on the southbound, eastbound shoulder of the road near Dunkin' Donuts, police said.

Tirado was parked with his flashers on, waiting to make a delivery to a local landscape company, police said.

Kiernan, who was headed east in his 1986 Chevrolet pickup, veered onto the southbound, eastbound shoulder of Route 25A, striking the rear of the trailer.

Police said it was not yet known why Kiernan veered into the vehicle; he was the sole occupant in his pickup.

Kiernan was pronounced dead at the scene; the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office brought him for an autopsy.

Tirado, who was not injured, was issued a summons for no parking, stopping, or standing.

The tractor trailer is registered to Toria Truck Rental in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500.

According to Riverhead Town police, a call came in at 6:18 a.m. about an accident on Route 25 in Wading River, in front of Dunkin' Donuts. Police said at least one individual died in the crash.
