Following LIRR Fare Hikes, No Additional Service Coming to Riverhead

After fares were hiked as of Friday, many lines will see additional service, but not North Fork LIRR users.

After a fare hike recently went into effect throughout the Long Island Rail Road system, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced recently that while many trains would be restored and added on several lines, no additional service will be coming to Riverhead or the North Fork.

Among the additional service will be morning routes between Farmingdale and Penn Station, further west on the branch that runs all the way out to Greenport.

To the south, late-night routes between Babylon and Patchogue/Speonk are being added.

Additional trains for evening commuters will be heading out to Port Jefferson, arriving at 7 p.m., and others out to Long Beach and Montauk.

New fares went into affect on Friday, with average tickets increasing between 8.2 and 9.3 percent, depending on the distance traveled.
