Get Out: Enjoy Jazz, Irish Food and a Women's History Month Exhibit

No better way to celebrate the ending of one season and the start of another than by getting out of the house and enjoying local activities.

It’s time to shake off the winter blues and get out of the house as the season changes. Celebrate jazz, Women’s History Month,  a special St. Patrick’s Day dinner, or welcome cute fuzzy chicks to your backyard.

  • Where/When: Friday at 5 p.m. at the Suffolk County Historical Society.
  • Why go: It’s Women’s History Month and this exhibit takes visitors into the personal and professional life of an influential Long Island woman..
  • Pricing: Free.

  • Where/When: Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Northville Grange
  • Why go: Proceeds from this lecture help restore the historic Grange building.
  • Pricing: Donations are accepted for the “Save the Grange” fund.

  • Where/When: Saturday night from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wal-Mart, Waldbaums, King Kullen, and Stop and Shop.
  • Why go: On a Saturday, there’s a good chance you need to stop by one of the four stores the Girl Scouts will be. Drop off a food item and help the girls help those who are in need.
  • Pricing: Non-perishable food items.

  • Where/When: Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Palmer Vineyards.
  • Why go: It’s the last official weekend of Winterfest. Get out and listen to some great jazz before the festival is over.
  • Pricing: $10

  • Where/When: Saturday at 6 p.m. at Polish Hall in Riverhead.
  • Why go: Have you gotten your yearly dose of corned beef and cabbage? If not, come out and support the Lion’s Club.
  • Pricing: $20 for adults/$16 for seniors/$12 for children.

  • Where/When: Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Riverhead Library.
  • Why go: This show at the library is a great place to introduce your whole family to jazz.
  • Pricing: Free
