'I Thought I Was Gonna Have a Heart Attack'

Reports of fallen trees, damaging homes, start to trickle in following brunt of storm.

While hurricane-force winds never made their way to Riverhead, it made no difference to at least one homeowner on East Main Street.

Barbara Ayers, who lives on East Main directly across from Tire Country Auto Repair, said she nearly had a heart attack after she heard an enormous tree fall on her home around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

"I knew it was gonna come down one day," Ayers said. "Boom! It was like a gunshot or a bomb. I didn't know what was happening."

Not only was her home hit, but a shed outside was also crushed by another tree.

After the falls, Ayers said she was unsure what to do next.

"What am I gonna do?" she asked. "I gotta go somewhere where there's no trees."
