May 13: Family Workshop, SADD, and Saving Sound Ave

School events, family events, and nighttime events are all on the schedule for Friday.

1. Riverhead High School is hosting two drunk driving awareness sessions this morning. Students Against Destructive Decisions are hosting a this morning at 8:30 at the high school. The event, held for juniors and seniors, will be held with the cooperation of the Riverhead Police Department, Riverhead Fire Department, Riverhead Ambulance Corp., Suffolk County Police Aviation, Central Suffolk Hospital Emergency Room, and a local used auto parts garage. Another for freshmen and sophomores will take place at 8:45 and will recount after a drunk driver drove through his bedroom wall and killed his wife.

2. Cornell Cooperative Extension is hosting a day-long workshop called . The free event will educate parents on building healthy food relationships, the mother-daughter connection, factors that influence body image and other issues.

3. Bring your kids to the  this evening to learn how to plant . Children ages 3-6 will be taught gardening basics at this free class - perhaps some valuable information for Mom and Dad looking to learn basics as well?

4. The North Fork Environmental Council is hosting an event at Martha Clara Vineyards tonight called '' Ecologist Chris Pickerall and Legislator Ed Romaine, R-Center Moriches, will be honored as Environmentalists of the Year. 

5. The returns to Hotel Indigo tonight with a jazz jam session from 8-11. All are welcome, though reservations are recommended. Cover charge is $10.
