One year ago today, the Blizzard of 2010 struck Riverhead, piling on between 12 to 14 inches of snow in one of the biggest storms in recent years. The brutal storm left residents digging out of snow drifts over a foot high, while Town Hall closed down due to the blizzard.

Despite the severity of the storm, few Riverhead residents lost power in the blizzard that knocked out electricity for more than 11,000 homes across Long Island. The Long Island Power Authority reported only 7 outages in the Riverhead area, according to its Storm Center website.
