UPDATE: Segal Avenue Man Arrested After Barricading Himself in Home

Riverhead and Suffolk County Police responded to barricaded subject on East Main Street.

A Riverhead man who had barricaded himself in his home at 3 Segal Ave. on Tuesday morning turned himself into police without incident shortly after 1:30 p.m, according to a statement from Riverhead Police.

Zdsislaw Skobodzinski, 35, was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration after police said the man barricaded himself inside his home, refused to come out, and threatened officers.

Police said they responded to a 911 call from the home at around 10:10 a.m. reporting a heated domestic dispute between Skobodzinski and his live-in girlfriend. When police arrived, Skobodzinski allegedly threatened to shoot officers and retreated into his house. His girlfriend and her 6-year-old son were removed from the home by responding officers, according to the statement.

Riverhead Police shut down a portion of East Main Street between Elton Street and Route 58 while negotiators, including Police Chief David Hegermiller, came to the scene, attempting to get the man to come out peacefully. At around 1:30 p.m., three hours into the standoff, police said Skobodzinski surrendered to police and was taken into custody. An unloaded double-barrel shotgun was found inside the house, according to the statement.

Suffolk County public information confirmed that they had been called to respond though they declined to comment further, forwarding requests to Riverhead Police. Chief Hegermiller could not be reached for comment at this time.
