Question of the Day: Same Sex Marriage Votes

Following Friday's vote, we're curious what you think about how our elected officials voted on this social issue.

After much debate, the New York State Senate passed a bill giving same sex partners the right to marry late on Friday night.

State Sen. Ken LaValle, R-Port Jefferson, voted against the bill as he said he would. The proposition passed the State Senate by a vote of 33-29, and the Assembly by an 80-63 tally.

A spokesman for LaValle offered the following statement before the vote:  "Senator LaValle believes marriage is between a man and a woman. He does support gay civil unions and has supported equality for gays."

Assemblyman Dan Losquadro, R-Shoreham, has stated since his campaign last fall that he is also against the measure, referencing his Catholic beliefs.

We're curious: what do you think about Riverhead's elected state officials voting against the bill?
