Question: Would You Support Athletic Additions in a Bond Proposal?

More than one school board member has voiced concern at the lack of athletic upgrades proposed in a preliminary bond proposal. What do you think?

At Tuesday night's board of education meeting, the school board held its first discussion on a $78 million bond proposal after drawn up by an engineering firm which worked with a committee to come up with a proposal.

At each meeting, concerns over a lack of new athletic space - particularly indoor athletic facilities - arose. Board member Greg Meyer , an addition engineers ballparked would add roughly $4.5 million to the existing proposal.

Fellow board member Angela DeVito called the athletic upgrades wants, not needs. After a $122 bond proposal was handily rejected by voters in early 2010, DeVito said, "If it's not a security issue, I can't see us throwing money into it."

Currently the only interior addition is a new weight room, according to Meyer.

What do you think about adding athletic facilities to the bond proposal? Are you willing to support a new gym - or any athletic additions, for that matter? How much would you be willing to support? Are athletic upgrades wants or needs?
