Suffolk Notebook: County Exec Race Set as GOP Nominates Carpenter

Suffolk Police crack down on DWI over long weekend.

Suffolk County Republicans on Wednesday night to face off against.

Speaking to a crowd of roughly 300, Carpenter touted her experience in county government - she has spent the past six as treasurer and served as a legislator for 13 years prior to her current role.

"There is not going to be any on-the-job training here," she said. "Because my experience in the legislature taught me one branch of government can't do it alone."

Both Carpenter and GOP Chairman John Jay LaValle noted the strength that a Republican-Conservative endorsement could have at the polls. Walsh was on hand Wednesday night in support of Carpenter who, if elected, would be the county's first female county executive.

Former congressional candidate Randy Altschuler backed out of the county exec nominating process to focus instead on running again for a seat currently held by Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton.

Suffolk Police Announce DWI, BWI Crackdowns Over Long Weekend

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormerover Memorial Day weekend to crack down on intoxicated drivers and boaters.

"The Suffolk County Police Department is doing everything possible to keep residents safe during the holiday weekend," Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said. "We will arrest anyone who is under the influence behind the wheel of a vehicle or boat."
