Up to 4 Inches of Snow Expected To Fall Wednesday Night

Keep the shovels handy; snow is on the way, again.

Riverhead residents are expected to wake up on Valentine's Day morning to a light blanket of snow.

According to Joey Picca, meteorologist with the National Weather Service at Upton, a weak low pressure system is slated to pass south of Long Island during the overnight hours.

A light snow, initially mixed with rain, is expected to fall, changing over to all snow overnight and lingering into the early morning hours.

Overnight low temperatures are forecast at approximately 30 degrees, with north to northeast winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour.

"It will be winding down by the morning commute, with maybe a few lingering snow showers," Picca said.

Across Riverhead and the North Fork, two to four inches of accumulation are expected, with some areas seeing a bit lower and higher amounts.

By morning, even if snow has ended, there could still be some "slick spots," Picca said, urging drivers to use caution.
