VIDEO: Mother's Day Flower Tips, From Florists - And Moms

For husbands and sons not entirely familiar with buying flowers for a special someone in their life, Riverhead Patch contacted some local florists - also moms - for their input on what makes a great gift from the garden.

Jeanne Scott, owner of Landscape Adventure, said there's no such thing as a typical gift, which can run from $20 to $200, though she's observed the average ticket price is $50. Items range from cut flowers - the most popular item - to veggies and garden statues. And her kids know at this point to get her something beside flowers, since she has plenty if those.

"Whatever the mother loves," she said. "I love the beach, so something like a beach chair or bathing suit is something that I like."

Terry Morton and Catherine Crook of Riverhead Flower shop also noted gifts such as chocolates and scarves, which they also carry, are popular items as well. They took a couple minutes to walk through some of their more popular floral items.
