Walter: Shelter Could Open If Power Is Out

If residents lose power for an extended period, a shelter will open in Riverhead.

Residents who are fearful of having nowhere to go, should they lose power and the ability to heat their homes, will be able to find shelter in Riverhead.

"If power is lost for an extended period of time, we will open the senior center," Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter said Friday evening.

Riverhead Town's senior center is located at 80 Shade Tree Lane in Aquebogue.

Some residents have expressed concerns that, should they lose power, they would not have the ability to operate their burners -- and many do not have alternative options such as generators.
