An attorney representing a Baiting Hollow couple claims a challenge course requires a special permit on the property, but a town attorney handling the case disagrees.

Survival Race is Racing to Run May Event

Plans for an outdoor, survival-style race set for May are now racing against the clock.

Representatives of The Survival Race – which held a 3,000-person race last fall on the 4-H property on Sound Avenue – spoke before the town board on Thursday morning, where town leaders noted that a mass gathering permit will be necessary in order for the race to go on.

"With a race of this magnitude, y'all should have been here months ago," said Supervisor Sean Walter.

Aquebogue Man Arraigned in Relation to Fatal Crash

Robert Beodeker, the man whose car struck and killed two pedestrians on the Meadowbrook Parkway on March 4, was arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

According to the Nassau County District Attorney's office, Beodeker, 50, of Aquebogue, was arraigned before Judge Tammy Robbins on a grand jury indictment charging him with aggravated vehicular homicide and other felonies.

School Budget Proposal Comes in Under Tax Levy Cap

Riverhead Central School District Superintendent Nancy Carney reported on Tuesday night that next year's proposed budget – up for vote next month – will come at a 3.82 percent increase in year's tax bill for district residents.

Carney's presentation noted that while the increase appears to come above the "2 percent" state law enacted last year, payments such as employee retirement and debt service are exempt from the law.
