Weekend Guide: Let the Festivals and Celebrations Begin

Strawberry Festival hits Mattituck, and Big Duck b-day and Juneteenth celebrate big events.

A 20 and 30 percent chance of thundershowers is expected on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, respectively. But if you're looking for somewhere to go before the rain hits - if it even does - there are plenty of outdoor activities going on this weekend, in addition to a good indoor music take Friday night. Take a look: 

  • Where/when: Bistro 72 at Hotel Indigo; Friday, 8 to 11 p.m.
  • Why go: To hear a in our backyard.
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/when: Riverhead Town Animal Shelter; Saturday, 10 a.m. to  2 p.m.
  • Why go: If you're looking for a dog, all adoption fees will be waived today. Dogs come spayed/neutered/microchipped/vaccinated.
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/when: Stotzky Park; Saturday, noon to 4:30 p.m.
  • Why go: To commemorate the end of slavery. For more on Juneteenth, click here
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/when: The Big Duck Ranch; Saturday, 1 to 4
  • Why go: To celebrate this piece of local history and benefit the Friends of the Big Duck, who keep it going.
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/when: Meets at Hallockville Museum Farm; Saturday, 1  to 4 p.m.
  • Why go: To learn about some of the history of Sound Avenue from someone who knows the town's history.
  • Pricing: $40. Reservations are required.

  • Where/when: Strawberry Fields, Mattituck; all weekend.
  • Why go: This huge draw has rides, food, fun, and benefits the Mattituck Lions Club.
  • Pricing: $5 for adults; $2 for kids ages 6 to 11; free for kids 5 and under.

Riverhead Tomcats

  • Where/when: At North Fork Saturday, 7 p.m.; Home (at Riverhead High School) on Sunday at 5.
  • Why go: To see some top talent in this rising collegiate baseball league.
  • Pricing: Free
