Weekend Guide: Music, Music, Music, a Downtown Mob and a Fundraiser

Jazz on the Vine starts up the week, as a couple other musical acts come to town as well.

1. This Friday, Martha Clara Vineyards continues its tribute band series with . The performance starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door.

2. Friday night, will be donating a portion of its profits to benefit organizations aimed at curbing anti-gay bullying and gay and lesbian suicide. Keeping , "The Homo Project" will be held in concert with Bedell Cellars.

3. Kent Animal Shelter and Art Sites are joining forces on Saturday morning for "." The , with attendees of the exhibit determining the winner. Prizes will be given out in two groups: grades 5 through 8, and grades 9 through 12. A $10 donation is required to enter the contest, with all proceeds going to benefit Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton.

4. Also starting at 11 a.m. Saturday is a hoping to inject a shot of adreneline into downtown business owners in the middle February, usually one of downtown's slower months. Show up with $20 and hit a store of your choice!

5. Also, also starting at 11 a.m. Saturday is a concert for parents and kids alike. The Jamesport Meeting House is hosting , nominated for a Grammy Award in 2009 for best album for children. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for kids.

6. L.I. Winterfest Jazz on the Vine starts Saturday. Seven different artists kick off the six-weekend-long festival, ending with the "" jam session at Hotel Indigo. Rather than listing all the artists here, see who's playing where on our calendar page. Tickets are $15 this year.

7. Denise Lucas, on a quest to , is holding a fund raiser this Saturday night at the Moose Lodge. Live music, food, and raffles will be available, and cost is $25.

8. At the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall, the - Dwayne - is performing Saturday night. The jazz flutist, who has performed with Erykah Badu for over a decade, steps on stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30.
