Weekly Wrap-Up: "Layaway Angels" Bring Holiday Cheer to Riverhead

Dee Muma, a co-owner of Dark Horse Restaurant on Main Street, said she is interested in purchasing the land around Spicy's Bar-be-que, pending an environmental review. Muma said she would not close the iconic restaurant if she became their landlord.

Two Riverhead High School students and a North Carolina man were arrested on Dec. 16 in connection with the theft of three guns, a Playstation and $4,700 in cash from a Flanders residence on Dec. 9, according to Southampton Town Police. Trever Jackson, 17, and Edward Durham, 18, both of Flanders, were each charged with charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.

A group of anonymous Good Samaritans paid off the layaway balances of struggling families at a Local K-mart. Patch reported that one donor paid off a $300 balance on Sunday. 

On Tuesday, Suffolk County legislators rejected a bill that would move Sex Offenders from two trailer parks in Riverside and Westhampton and move them into smaller "mini-shelters" across the county. A Westchester-based non-profit was awarded a bid to house the county's sex offenders, but no contract has been signed. 

Suffolk Bancorp, parent company of the Suffolk County National Bank, filed profit reports on Wednesday, bringing it back into compliance with Nasdaq regulations. Nasdaq had threatened to delist the bank from their public exchange after the bank had failed to file reports showing their profits and losses for the year.
