Would You Evacuate Without Your Pets?

A pet-friendly shelter is open at the Suffolk County Community College's eastern campus in Riverside.

As Hurricane Sandy continues to cut a swath of destruction, Riverhead residents are making the decision of whether to go stay with friends and family or ride out the storm in the town's shelter at Riverhead High School. 

Prepared with a go-bag, food, water and medication, the question remains: Would you evacuate to a shelter if you couldn't take your pet?

Currently, there is a pet-friendly shelter open for residents at Suffolk County Community College's eastern campus in Riverside. The Riverhead Town shelter at Riverhead High School is not equipped to allow pets.
