Good Samaritan Nurse Aids Youth Athletic Programs

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Janet Stevens
Town: Manorville, NY
Nominated by: Lauren Paccione

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"

Janet has been a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital for over 30 years. Besides being a brilliant and competent nurse, she is a teacher and honorable friend. She has many hard earned nursing certifications, and has spent years teaching CPR to peers, physicians and youth athletic coaches on Long Island.

Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?

Janet returned to school to complete her master's degree in nursing. This leap into higher education has made Janet an inspiration to other working mothers, her peers, her three children and her students.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

Janet Stevens has helped to create PAD (defibrillator) programs for many youth athletic programs including local football, lacrosse and soccer clubs, making the fields a safer place for our children. Janet offers support and a smiling face to all, despite any adversity she faces. Always the optimist, she hurdles any obstacles with grace and confidence. She is truly an inspiration to all who know her.
