Prior Reservations Essential “The six women portrayed in Girls Who Looked Under Rocks by Jeannine Atkins all grew up to become award-winning scientists and writers, as comfortable with a pen or paintbrush as with a magnifying glass. They all started out as girls who didn’t run from spiders or snakes, but crouched down to take a closer look. Often they were discouraged from getting dirty, much less pursuing careers in science. But they all became enthusiastic teachers, energetic writers, and passionate scientists – frequently the only women among men in their fields. Their stories remind us to look, and to look harder, and then to look again. Under rotten logs and in puddles, there are amazing things to see.” Reprinted from the book jacket. Each of these three programs is inspired by one of the women in this book. Part 1 - Insects Enjoy the detail of the insect world that fascinated Anna Botsford Comstock, artist, educator, and conservationist.
