6 Places To Donate on Giving Tuesday

Find a list of local organizations that need your help.

It's Giving Tuesday, a day created by the UN Foundation where community members are encouraged to donate to local and national organizations that rely on donations. 

If you are in the giving spirit after shopping on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday  and Cyber Monday, then consider helping out the following local organizations. 

1. Maureen's Haven

The weather is starting to turn and which houses the homeless in the winter is starting to gear up. The non-profit is always in need of not only goods such as food, clothing and toiletries, but also volunteers. For more information, call (631) 727-6831.

2. The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a staple of the holiday season with its bell-ringers.  You can always provide the organization with your spare change, but it also accepts donations for its food pantry that is located at 130 Osborn Avenue in Riverhead.  Call (631) 727-3338.

3.  Community Action of Southampton Town 

CAST is accepting donations for its thrift shop located in its main building at 311 Front Street in Greenport. CAST is committed to helping low-income residents find jobs and housing. The organization provides residents with food and fuel assistance and tries to provide educational opportunities and training. CAST accepts donations of non-perishable food items including canned goods. They also accept toys, new school supplies, dishes, pots and pans and household appliances. They also take computers in working order. Donations are accepted during business hours on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call 631-477-1717 for more information. 

4. North Fork Parish Outreach 

This organization operates a food pantry and also helps provide residents with fuel assistance and other services. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Donations are accepted daily until 2 p.m. on weekdays. On Saturday, the thrift shop is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Donations are accepted until closing time. Gently used clothing, household items, books and jewelry as well as other items are accepted. 5. Op Shop in Greenport

The opportunity shop in Greeport, which benefits the Eastern Long Island Hospital accepts donations. It is located at 321 Main Street, on the north side of the public parking lot behind the former Arcade store and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations are accepted until 2:00 p.m.  The thrift shop does not accept: computers, fax machines, mattresses, car seats, encyclopedias, textbooks and soiled, damaged, or excessively worn clothing items.

6. Dominican Sisters

Dominican Sisters Thrift Shop, located at 110 Front Street in Greenport, accepts donations of gently used clothing from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Call (631) 477-1505.
