The Hunger Games...Worth the Hype?

Trying to decide if the book is worth all the media hype?

The first book in Suzanne Collins three part series "The Hunger Games" follows 16 year old Katniss, a young girl who lives with her mother and sister in the poorest district of Panem, the post modern version of the former United States.

Plagued by poverty, disease, and starvation the districts failed rebellion against the Capital of Panem has resulted in their forced participant in "The Hunger Games".  One male and one female from each distrct  must fight to the death in an arena while the entire world watches. Only one contestant will survive bringing glory, and most importantly food, back to their district.

I have to say I was a little hesitant to read this book because of all the media hype. I am usually draw to lighter books especially since I do most of my reading before bed.

About a week ago I finally gave in, with the help of my sisters' persistence, and started the book. Well I got through the entire thing in 3 days. I could not put it down. The story line is compelling and exciting with one of the best narratives I have ever been exposed to. The characters come to life before your very eyes in a way that is so relatable you can't help but form a connection to each and everyone.

As soon as I finished the first book I immediately downloaded the second to my iPad but I am most excited for the movie. I already have tickets. So if you are looking for a book to brighten up your Spring I would reccomend you pick up or download a copy of Suzanne Collins's "The Hunger Games". It will not dissapoint.
