Time to Check Out the Riverhead Project

Looking for a great new restaurant to try? What about a place to relax for some after work cocktails...Then the Riverhead Project is the place to be.

My sister was home for the weekend from Astoria, Queens and we decided to spend an entire day together. When I asked her what she wanted to do she said “Well you are the big East End girl...You tell me”...So I rose to the challenge and decided to take her out in Riverhead.

My husband Ben had been out late at the Paul McCartney concert with his mom the night before so he was sleeping late. I woke him up to tell him that Christina and I were off to the Riverhead Project for brunch...He looked at me with sleepy eyes and said “hold on, hold on... I am getting up”

The Riverhead Project is the newest restaurant to come to downtown Riverhead. Located in the old Chase bank building downtown it is part of the larger revitalization project happening in Riverhead Town. When you walk inside you defiantly do not feel like you are in a bank. It has a modern posh feel with gorges greens, browns, and dark wood finises. There is a lounge area just off the bar which would be the perfect hangout for an after work cocktail. It is really beautiful.

Ben, Christina, and I decided that we would sit outside for our brunch. The kind hostess showed us to our table even taking the time to ask us our connection to the area and how we heard about the restaurant. My sister and I were most impressed with the continuous supply of sparking water chilled to perfection in their signature bottle which were never ran out of. It was absolutely delicious. I wish I could have taken some home.

The menu was their classic brunch menu (I just love brunch) and I loved that it wasn’t super overwhelming in its choices. I would rather a restaurant make 10 amazing dishes rather than 20 or 30 just so so. As we looked over the menu everything look so yummy it was a bit hard to make a decision. Benjamin decided to try the Andele Andele, a coffee based cocktail, with the steak and eggs. Christina ordered a light beer and the fish tacos. I decided to stick to the sparkling water and I ordered the Bimibap, a delicious mix of sushi rice, sauteed & marinated vegetables, fried egg in a spicy Korean chilli sauce. We ordered the basket of fresh pastries as a starter thinking that if there were extra we could take some home. Well folks, there were no extras. The pastries were the best I have ever had an arrived to our table still warm from the oven. They didn’t stand a chance.

It was a beautiful day outside which complimented the atmosphere the the Riverhead Project beautifully. We were relaxed and comfortable which allowed us to enjoy our dining experience even more. When the food came it was out of this world. Every dish was absolutely delicious and my sister’s fish tacos even came with fried avocado. All I can say is yum!! We ended the meal splitting the Devil Food cake desert which was topped with homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was amazing. I am so looking forward to visiting the Riverhead Project again!

After our wonderful meal the three of us went to the Green Earth Natural Food store on main street to meet up with fellow Patch blogger . LeLonni is an astrologer who conducts private readings one day each month at the food store. She also does private readings as well as a long list of workshops aimed at self help and gaining more self and spiritual awareness. I read her religiously on Riverhead Patch and I was so excited to meet her. She was so friendly so I sat right down for my $20 mini reading. I needed to give LeLonni my birthday, location of my birth and the time that I was born. Thankfully for me my mother always had us celebrate our “birthday moment” so I was fully prepared for my reading...December 24th, 1982, Stony Brook NY, 10:36am.

LeLonni was able to get started right away. Now remember, an astrologer is not a psychic, they are able to interpret how the different energies affect you. She cannot tell you the future but she can help you prepare for what is coming up. All I can say was that she was dead on!

What LeLonni touched on most was my career. As many of you may know I have been unemployed for a few months now following a very political decision by the board of education at my former school. If you have never been unemployed consider yourself blessed because it is demoralizing. All I want is to go back to work, to make a contribution to society and I would take a job for half what I was making to do that. I have sent out countless resumes and even had a nice conversations with people like Margaret Ferris from Riverhead town who was very helpful and supportive. But what now? How do I make the transition into business which is what I am really looking to do? I have no formal business experience but I have a drive to do something great. I have been home since February and it feels like forever. I wanted to know that a positive change was coming.

LeLonni was able to see that I was having career issues but I was moving in a positive direction in terms of not only my job but in life. She was able to see many aspects of my life and personality which are unseen by the naked eye, such as my ambition, how much I worry, or how I was treated by my previous employer. She told me that she knew I was afraid that my life was ready to fall apart but in fact it was about to blossom. Everything I want is coming to me, I just can’t have it all right now. It actually made me feel better.

My reading was so great that my sister, who was reluctant at first, jumped up and sat right down in my place. LeLonni was about to read her so accurately that my husband, the skeptic that he is, even allowed her to read him. Again she came up with traits and events that are unseen by the naked eye. I watched as my husband skepticism began to slowly fade from his face. The best part was when LeLonni said, “Ben you are the type of person who always gets what you want” The three of us burst out laughing. Their is a saying in our home. My husband turns to me (sometimes more than once a day) and says “Jeannie, I get what I want”. And he is right...I often look at him and think, “how does he do that”? Thankfully for me I get what I want too, especially when it lines up with what he wants. Hey, it works for me.

If you want more information on LeLonni Campbell please follower her or visit her website by clicking here.

I hope that you will visit both the Riverhead Project and LeLonni (please check her website to for her mini readings) soon. If you do please let me know...

Happy Summering...
