Featured Event: Annual Holiday Bonfire Set for December

The Town event will feature a tree lighting and a special visit from Santa

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, but did you know Santa also has a boat?

The Town of Riverhead will hold its 12th Annual "Old Fashioned Bonfire and Holiday Celebration" on Dec. 10 at behind the East End Arts building, featuring a tree lighting and an appearance by Santa Claus who will arrive on his special "ice boat" on the Peconic River.

The bonfire starts at 4 p.m., and will include free hot cocoa and cookies. Guests will sing Christmas carols until Santa arrives in his special boat to light the Christmas tree and take photos with the kids.

Residents who want to come out and enjoy the holiday spirit are encouraged to bring a chair and a thermos to the event.

Last year, The 30-foot wide fire kept carolers warm while the Maple Tree Deli provided heartier snacks like pulled pork and smoked chicken chili. And of course, the big man himself, Santa made his appearance and took photos with each of the children.
