Winter Day Trips in the Hamptons and North Fork

These winter trips are great for couples and kids alike!

Bundle up and hit the road. These local winter wonderlands are full of adventure—and are less than a tank of gas away.

Why Go?
For a trip with breathtaking views along the Long Island Sound, head to Montauk Point State Park. Whether you choose to go hiking, cross-country skiing, surf fishing or seal watching, there's something here for everyone.

Insider Tip:
Dogs are allowed in most areas of the park but only on a leash that's no longer than 6 feet. The park restricts pets from entering, camping, bathing and in picnic areas.

Must Do:
One of the best views is from the Montauk Lighthouse. Climb to the top and bring your camera.

The Fine Print:
The park is open year round from sunrise to sunset and picnicking and hiking are also available all year. The vehicle entrance fee is $8 per car.

Why Go?
 Featuring the works of Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol, to name a few, this gallery is all about the bolder pieces in art, sculpture and photography.

Insider Tip:
All works on display are for sale.

Must Do:
Be sure to check out exhibits featuring the works of Bert Stern and Milton Avery, among others.

The Fine Print:
The gallery is open Monday through Thursday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Why Go?
Featuring award winning wines and "Candlelight Fridays," this is one trip perfect for leaving the kids at home.

Insider Tip:
The last wine tasting for each day occurs an hour before the official closing time of the estate.  

Must Do:
Stop by the estate on a Friday to enjoy live music over a glass of good wine and good company. "[An] Absolutely stunning, beautiful vineyard, perfect back deck, live music and an excellent wine club," said visitor James O'Brien.

The Fine Print:
The winery and vineyard are open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go?
 Grab your skates, a group of friends and family for a fun-filled day on the ice.

Insider Tip:
 There's no need to leave the rink for food. The club features a fully stocked snack bar.

Must Do:
After a day of skating, get warmed up by the club house's open fire.

 Skate rentals are $8 for adults and $6 for children. Entrance fees vary based on days so be sure to check the website for pricing details.
